SIGNS THAT YOUR CHILD IS IN TWEEN AGE
Do you have a child who suddenly started acting above their age like a mini teenager between the age of 9-12years? Then you have a tween in your house, it’s the age between school age and teenage.
Parenting tweens can be challenging like any other phase because your little child who ordinarily likes cuddling and being around you all the time, suddenly starts exhibiting signs of maturity. The child wants to be more independent. THIS IS DEVELOPMENTALLY NORMAL.
Knowledge is key for parenting through these times, having a good idea or understanding of what’s going on with your child mentally and physically makes the tween period easier for both of you.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND
PUBERTY: Generally speaking, puberty happens during tween age but varies for individuals and usually occurs earlier in girls.
They begin to consider their attractiveness to others and friend’s opinions of them and/or their looks begin to bother them.
At this time, it is important to keep communications open and try to educate them about their bodies and sex in age appropriate ways.
A NEWWAY OF THINKING: Tweens begin to think in more abstract ways and ask complex questions. They are able to use more logical reasoning and deduction than a younger child but still won’t be able to make the best choices or major decisions and thus should be guided.
INCREASED NEED FOR PRIVACY: There is an increased need for privacy eg they close the door because their bodies are changing and don’t want to be seen naked. They may likely not share information with their parents as they will prefer their friends since they spend more time with them but a parent must constantly bring them close and assure them of their love and remind them that they can always come to you to talk anytime and about anything even bad choices which will in the long run creates a solid foundation for trustworthy and independent child. This would help you and your child remain close with you having a better understanding of what they are going through.
A NEW PERSONALITY EVERYDAY: Your tween child goes to bed loving dresses and wakes up all about crop tops and jeggings its normal in fact they are on the right track developing.
It’s important to know that these years are an ever evolving time, they start to explore their identity, learn more about themselves, be aware of the changes in their bodies too and are exposed to new things due to the increased time with their peers.
ITS TEMPORAL:So as every phase of parenting, it’s both transitional phase for the you and your child so it’s important to remember that your love and support is highly needed.
Do you have a child in this age or approaching this age? It’s this post relatable?
